Meet the Occupational Therapist

Louise Rigney

Louise is passionate about assessing and providing intervention for children experiencing: 

  • Developmental delays in play skills

  • Handwriting difficulties

  • Delays in motor skills

  • Sleep difficulties

  • Toileting difficulties

  • Global development delay (GDD)

  • Difficulties in functional skills, including dressing, toileting and implementing routines.

    Louise is also passionate about creating groups within the school environment to optimise the developmental gains of therapy.

Qualifications

Louise graduated in 2007 and started her career as an Ergonomic consultant in Melbourne, assessing and designing plant and equipment for various clients.

She started her Master in Occupational Therapy Practice in 2006, graduating in 2007 and then moving to Launceston.

Louise held a number of positions at the Launceston General Hospital (LGH), specialising in clients with neurological conditions, specifically neurological assessments and rehabilitation.

More recently Louise has been working with children and families within the NDIS and private settings, continuing her focus and passion on functional and motor conditions, with a focus pretend play and handwriting.

  • Cognitive Orientation to daily Occupational Performance (COOP) approach to handwriting

  • Early intervention for upper limb therapy for children with diagnosed cerebral palsy specifically:

    • Advanced Bimanual therapy 

    • Functional Hand Use in Hemiplegia - Constraint induced movement therapy 

    • Upper limb Orthoses (splinting)  

  • Sleep wise, evidence-based sleeping for children with disabilities

  • Toilet time, Debbie Atkins

When Louise isn’t an Occupational Therapist:

Outside of work Louise enjoys spending time with her young family and friends, at the beach or on the farm.
